Board & Administration
Board meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday at 4:00pm. The meetings are conducted at the central office in Boyne City and are open to the public.

Linda Fry - Linda has been a Board member since 1999 and currently serves in the capacity of Chairperson. Linda earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northern Michigan University and went on to complete her Master’s degree in Classroom Teaching at Michigan State University. She taught vocal and instrumental music at Boyne City Schools for 33 years and is now retired. Linda is actively in township government and is a volunteer for the Friends of the Boyne Library. Linda has three grown children, and enjoys skiing, sailing, biking, reading, sewing and gardening.

Bill Fry - Bill has been a Board member since 2002 and currently serves in the capacity of Vice Chairperson. He graduated with two BS degrees from Michigan State University; one in Mathematics and one in Packaging and Engineering. Bill taught Mathematics at Boyne City High School for 35 years where he served as Chairman of the mathematics department for 25 years. While now retired, Bill is active in township government and other community activities. Bill is married to his wife Linda, and they have three grown children, all of which have attained college degrees. Bill also enjoys skiing, sailing, boatbuilding, biking, and traveling with his wife.

Nancy McWatters - Nancy has been a board member since January, 2000 and currently serves as Treasurer. Nancy works as an Accounting Trainer/Consultant for Emphasys Software. She is also a member of the East Jordan Lioness Club and was President of the club for Fiscal year 2008. Nancy is married and has 3 grown children plus 3 grown step children and 9 grandchildren

Archie Wyatt - Archie joined the Board in 2007. Prior to her retirement she taught school for 20 years in the Birmingham School District. Archie is married and has four children, one with special needs. She has previous experience as a board member for the Oakland County ARC and has been a volunteer for Special Olympics, Community Living Centers, the Charlevoix food pantry and the Boyne Elementary school. She is active in the Congregational Church of Charlevoix where she serves as a Trustee. Archie enjoys sewing and is a member of the Northern Michigan Sewing Guild.

Helen Deming - Helen has been a Board member since 1981. She married Cal Deming in 1955, and together they raised four children. Helen worked at the Grandvue Medical Care Facility for 23 years, first as a secretary, and then as social worker for the last 19 years. She is the Secretary of Grandvue Auxiliary and is very active in the United Methodist Church. Helen has generously volunteered her time at the Boyne City schools for many years and is affectionately referred to as “Gramma” by children and teachers alike. Helen has especially enjoyed being part of the growth of Summertree and is proud of its reputation as a quality and caring organization.

Annemarie Beauvais
Annemarie has been a resident of northern Michigan all her life and Board member since 1988. She became interested in the work of Summertree as the mother of a severely multiply impaired daughter, who unfortunately passed away in 1995. She is married and has three other grown children. Annemarie is musically talented and plays in her community’s band.

Don Toffolo - Don and his wife Gail were born, raised, and educated in Detroit, but they always knew they wanted to raise their two children in a smaller community.
Since August of 1972, the Toffolos have played an active role in the Boyne City community, and Don’s employment portfolio is packed with successes as a retail store owner, a sales and contract manager for Aerospace at a local manufacturer.
After his first “retirement,” Don earned his real estate license, and started selling real estate in Charlevoix, where he stayed for 10 years, specializing primarily in Charlevoix and Emmet counties. In May of 2005, after 2 years of planning and talking, Don and his friend, Pat O’Brien, opened a new office in downtown Boyne City, Pat O’Brien and Associates, where Don currently works.

Jan Anderson - Jan Anderson was raised downstate, but spent all her summers “up north” on Beaver Island. She also spent time in Boyne City, where she finally moved in 2006. Jan attended Northern Michigan University where she earned Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, focusing on Special Education for the Cognitively Impaired. Her education continued by adding an endorsement for Learning Disabilities at Eastern Michigan University. Since then Jan has taught in public and private schools and worked with adults with developmental disabilities in group homes and day programs. Jan has three adult daughters, the youngest in college. For fun she participates in Community Band and Church choir.

Bob Houser - Bob joined the Board in July 2016. He earned his B.S. degree in 1976 from Central MI University and his MSW degree from Grand Valley in 2001. He has spent his professional career in human services starting in 1976 with the Department of Mental Health. He retired from the Family Independence Agency in 2008. Bob was working at the Alpine Center as the Training Director when Summertree was originally formed. In the 80s Bob served both as a trainer and supervisor for two of Summertree managed AFC homes. Bob is mostly retired now, however he does continue to work as a Social Worker 1 to 2 days per week.
